Obituary published in the Lexington Unit Journal

At five o'clock Monday morning the earthly career of Mrs. Polly Chance, the aged relict of the late Daniel Chance, was ended.
Mrs. Chance was born in Allegheny county, North Carolina, in 1792, and was the oldest person residing is this township. She was married in 1817, and three years later moved to Clay county, Indiana, where she and her husband resided until 1846, when they moved to Illinois and settled in this county, living in Money Creek township for many years. They moved to Lexington about the year 1874, where they have both died. Mr. Chance passed away eleven years ago. Deceased was the mother of thirteen children, nine girls, seven of whom have preceded her to the grave; and four boys, all living. She was converted in 1826 and had been a member of the Baptist Church of this place for many years. Her death seems to have been occasioned by a general breaking down of the system from old age. For nearly a year preceding her death her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hancock, were with her and added greatly to her comfort in her declining days. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Forward, and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery west of town.
