George "Hilder" Johnson farmed at his family's home farm in Maple Grove Township and, in his later years, worked at Jerome Foods. He married Hannah Hanson (sister to Laura Hanson who married his brother, Oscar). Hannah died giving birth to their only child, Wilfred. Wilfred died at the age of 11. Hilder was a very mild-mannered man, devoted to his farm and to his extended family.
