Born Robinson Creek, Floyd County (now Pike County) Kentucky, June 23, 1815. Son of Thomas May (1787-1867). Colonel in the Union Army during the Civil War; member of Wisconsin state assembly, 1870-1872; candidate for Governor of Wisconsin, 1879 for the Greenback Party, and 1890 for the Union Labor Party.
