Louis Giacometti

Louis F. Giacometti, a Petaluma native, lived a good life. In fact it was a "fabulous life," recalled his son, Louis Jr.

"My dad enjoyed everything he did. It's as simple as that," he said.

The senior Giacometti died Thursday at his Santa Rosa home at age 89.

For many years, he owned H&G Equipment Co. in Cotati, and was a member of the Sonoma County Farm Bureau's Hall of Fame.

Giacometti also was a longtime member of Rotary International and was a Paul Harris fellow of that organization. He also belonged to the Horseless Carriage Club of America.

He especially enjoyed his tenure as a director of the annual Harvest Fair, a signature Sonoma County event that grew from a small-town wine event into one of the year's most relished.

"He loved to watch the Harvest Fair grow," said son Louis Jr.

Besides his elder son, Giacometti is survived by son Loran Giacometti of Rohnert Park; daughter Cricket Parks of Santa Rosa; and five grandchildren.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose Catholic Church. A private entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Santa Rosa.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to Memorial Hospice of Santa Rosa, St. Vincent Elementary School in Petaluma or St. Rose Elementary School in Santa Rosa.
