Joseph E. "Jack" was the 8th child born to Joseph Henry and Rosa Lee Seay Smoot.

Joseph served in the US Army during WWI.

His first marriage was to Leah Inez Moles, no children were born to this union. Jack grew up in Richmond, Virginia and became a Linesman for Virginia Railway and Power Company. Jack left Richmond about 1918 and settled in Huntington West Virginia. He went to work for Charles Bolt Glass Company which later became Owens Illinois Glass Container.

Jack married Sarah Alice Fuller.

Born to this union: Alice Ruth, Joseph Eldred "Toby" and Johnny Prichard.

Jack retired from Owens after 44 years service. He was a very hard worker, always had one or more vegetable gardens, enjoyed growing flowers, roses, pansies, cannies, etc. He was an outdoorsman. Jack almost always had dogs, beagles, blueticks, etc. He loved rabbit and squirrel hunting. Jack was devoted to his family and I would have to say that he spent his life working for his family. He died of a heart attack.
