A weary, tired body now resting; a soul gone to its maker; a cheerful voice forever stilled. Frederick J. Wagner passed away Friday last at 2 p.m. at the Germania house, where he had been boarding since his return from DeSoto about a week ago. For many years he suffered from bronchial asthma, and he lived much in the open air because of the relief it afforded him. His condition has been gradually growing worse and the end came not unexpected by friends.

Decedent was born in Salem, Ohio, and was 69 years old. He resided with his parents on a farm in French Creek township in the early days, and later moved to what is now the Joe Hess farm on the Village Creek road. He had a splendid military record, enlisting in Co. B 2d Battalion 16th U. S. Infantry in February 1862, at Waukon, under command of Capt. Biddle. He took part in or was present at sixteen of the most memorable battles of the war.

Surviving are four children, one residing in Minneapolis, one in St. Louis and the whereabouts of the other two is not known. Three sisters and two brothers also survive. They are Mrs. H. Thill, of Des Moines, Mrs. J. McGarry, Mrs. G. R. Peacock and Chas. J. of Lansing, John of St. Paul.

The funeral was held Sunday from the home of G. R. Peacock, Rev. Robt. Bradley officiating.
