Dorinne Evans of Fort Gibson, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Eastgate Village Retirement Center in Muskogee. She was born May 18, 1921 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma to Floyd and Jessie (Young) Durgan. Dorinne attended high school in Bristow, Oklahoma. Her first job was with the newspaper working as a journalist in the social activities and weddings area which she found to be very enjoyable. It was while working at the newspaper that Dorinne met the love of her life, Wayne Henson. He worked at a pool hall above her office. They married in 1939 and moved to Coyle, Oklahoma. Dorinne begin a job working as a reporter with the Guthrie Newspaper and Wayne took a job with Kerr-McGee. He was transferred frequently and as far away as Arizona. They also lived in Texas before moving back to Stroud, Oklahoma. After Wayne's death at the age of 52, Dorinne being independent and always trying new adventures, went to Kerr-McGee and asked for a job. She was hired as an accounting clerk at Kerr-McGee where she worked until her retirement. Later, she married a longtime friend of the family, Mack Evans, who shared Dorinne's love for horses and riding. She, Mack and her favorite horse, Buttercup took many trail rides together. Dorinne was a very smart, determined, active lady who enjoyed life to the fullest. Her joy in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her church, gardening, flowers, painting and playing bridge. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Wayne Henson and Mack Evans; one sister, Ruby Hinkle, and grandson, Jason Checotah. She is survived by one sister, Jessie Erwin; three daughters, Deanna Greisen and her husband, Cliff, of Corpus Christie, TX, Sandra Checotah and her husband, Richard, of Fort Gibson, OK and Darla Henson of Amarillo, TX; one step-son and his wife, Charles and Cecilia Evans of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren, Dan Greisen, Paula Gowen, Brian Greisen, and Michael Checotah, and seven great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Fosters' Ivory Chapel with Rev. Rex Wilkinson officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Stroud City Cemetery with Rev. Stan Miller officiating. Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
