Mildred Elizabeth Elsey Swan died on December 12, 2003 at her home in Reno, NV. She was born on August 31, 1909 to Laken Daniel and Jessie Long Elsey of Bellview, West Virginia. She graduated from high school in Aurora, WV and Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. She worked as a public school nurse in Preston and Marion counties, WV, and as a nurse at Morgantown, WV, Portland, OR, Washoe General and St. Mary's Hospital in Reno, NV. Mildred Swan married Emmet Vernon Swan in 1936 at Virginia City, NV.
She served as Treasurer of Reno Nazarene Church for several years. She was a member of Reno First Methodist Church before transferring to the Sun Valley and Reno Nazarene Churches. She belonged to the Registered Nurses Assoc. of Nevada, Women's Auxiliary of Gideon's Reno Camp and assisted in placing Gideon bibles with nurses, hospitals and correctional institutions in Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lucy of Washington D.C., brothers; Fred Elsey of Terra Alta, WV and Naples, FL, Clifford Elsey of Aurora, WV and Charles Nicholas Elsey of Universal City, TX, three step-children; Inez F. O .Thorn of Mannington, WV, Keith Swan, Akron, OH and Enid Banks, Rockford, IL. She is survived by Ona L. Stopyra of Philadelphia, PA, Vernon Swan of East Haven, CT, Euphia O. Blinn, Carson City, NV and Victor F. Baird, Reno, NV, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at the Reno First Church of the Nazarene, 740 Del Monte Lane, Reno, with committal service following at Mountain View Mausoleum. Visitation hours are scheduled for Monday, December 15th from 4:00 pm � 6:00 pm at the Walton Funeral Home, 875 West Second Street, Reno, NV.
