Harry M Baxter dies in Hospital Rites Wednesday

Harry Morgan Baxter 59 of Georgetown County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 am at the Duncan Memorial Methodist Church with the Rev Paul E McWhirter pastor officiating. Burial was conducted in Elmwood Cemetery directed by Mayer Funeral Home.

Mr Baxter was born August 6 1898 at Ashford Ala and was a son of the late Pascal Shakespeare Baxter and Lou Ann Vicey Baxter. The family moved to Cottondale Fla when he was a small boy. He attended the schools of Marianna and worked for a number of years with Savannah River Lumber Co and later was an automobile dealer in Panama City Fla for 10 years.

Mr Baxter came to Georgetown in 1937 to accept a position with Stamper Chevrolet Co. In 1940 Mr Baxter accepted the agency for International Trucks and entered the service station. During World War II he accepted a position with the Woodland Division of International Paper Co and was office manager in charge of purchasing at his death.

Mr Baxter was a member of Duncan Memorial Methodist. He was also a member of Winyah Indigo Society, Winyah Bay Country Club, Georgetown Moose Club, and a charter member and past president of Georgetown's Lion Club.

Surviving are his widow former Miss Addie Godfrey three sons Harry M Baxter Jr of Columbia Lt Paschal H Baxter of the Air Force stationed at Homestead AFB Fla and Maxcy G Baxter of Georgetown; a daughter Miss Anne Baxter of Georgetown three granddaughters, a brother Paschal H Baxter of Panama City; a sister Mrs James Scott of Cottondale Fla and a number of nieces and nephews.
