Civil War Veteran, Co. K, 57th Illinois Infantry.

Enlisted on 25 February, 1863 as a Private. Mustered out 7 May, 1865 at Gainesville, Kentucky. Enlisted under the name Oliver Klinefelter. His military death records say he was born in Penn., age 75, 5' 9 1/2", light complexion, blue eyes, gray hair, Protestant, farmer, living in Lompoc, Calif. (prior to living at the Soldier's Home), married to Elice C. Cline.

John Oliver Klinefelter was born 20 September, 1844 in Lycoming County, Penn, son of John and Mary Snyder Klinefelter. He married in Goleta, Santa Barbara, California, on 1 Jan. 1884, to Elice C. Kenyon, daughter of Gurdin N. and Destemona E. Wilson Kenyon. Family legend says he changed his last name from Klinefelter to Cline, otherwise Elice wouldn't marry him.
