DARLENE KUNKEL

Darlene Kunkel, 72, of Remsen, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.

Darlene Kunkel was born Feb. 19, 1935 at rural Strubel, the daughter of Charles and Justine (Bruscher) Eulers, Jr. Darlene was raised in the Strubel area and later in Le Mars, where she received her education at Central School. She then worked at Kohout Cap Factory in Le Mars. On June 11, 1997 she married Marvin Kunkel in Le Mars. They made their home near Remsen, where they were engaged in farming. They moved into Remsen in 1987.

Darlene was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the church Guild, Catholic Daughters of America of which she was a past Regent for 11 years, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary, all of Remsen. She enjoyed fishing, boating, dancing, going out to eat, bowling, golfing, flowers, canning and she had a huge garden while on the farm. She especially enjoyed spending time with her wonderful husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin of Remsen; one son, Michael John and his fiancee, Brandi Adams both of Marcus; one daughter, Lori Bobier of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Blake Coughlin, Dillon, Karlee, Kylee, Skylar and Kasandra Kunkel, Dane Bobier; one great-granddaughter, Gracie Ann Coughlin; two brothers and their wives, Nick and June Eufers of Brush Prairie, Wash., and Charles and Susie Eufers, Jr. of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. by St. Mary's Guild and the Catholic Daughters of America and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Casketbearers will be Blake Coughlin, Dillon Kunkel, Nick and Charles Eufers, Jr., Emil Bruscher, Jr., John Graser. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren.
