When Frances was about 14, the family moved to China where her father was a Professor at Pei Yang University for 24 years until his death.
Frances married Col. George Frederick Humbert on 21 Apr 1922 in Tientsin, China. They took a month long honeymoon via sea from China to Europe, arriving in New York - on to El Paso, TX where George was stationed at Fort Bliss. They had 4 children: Barbara, Martha, George Frederick, Jr & Mary Ann. The two eldest girls were born in El Paso, the two youngest in Lansing, MI. George was stationed in VA, Florida and back to El Paso, TX.
