RICHARD G. KUNKEL
Richard G. Kunkel, 70, of Remsen, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1992, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. John J. McGuirk officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with graveside military services conducted by Post 220 American Legion and Post 3328 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Friday), with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 8 p.m., at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mr. Kunkel was born Aug. 11, 1921, in Le Mars, the son of Arthur and Margaret (Rodesch) Kunkel. He was raised in the Remsen area and attended rural school. He entered the U.S. Army Sept. 25, 1942. He married Dorothy Wolf on Feb. 9, 1949, in Remsen. The couple farmed near Remsen until retiring, and moved into town in July 1976.
Mr. Kunkel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and VFW Post 3328.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Carl and his wife, Mary, and Dan and his wife, Rose, all of Remsen and Bill of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Lynn and her husband, Larry Bohnenkamp of Le Mars; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Don of Remsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
