A St. George man was killed Wednesday about 6:50 a.m. when his car rammed a tree which had fallen across Highway 17 a little more than a mile south of Highway 171.
Pronounced dead on arrival at the county Emergency Room was Addison McCoy Johnston, age 63.
The coroner's office ruled the death accidental and no inquest is planned.
The funeral will be at 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the St . George Methodist Church burial with Masonic Rites, Will be in St. George U.D.C. Cemetery, directed by Bryant Funeral Home, St. George.
Mr. Johnston was born Sept. 9, 1908 at St. George, a son of the late Dr. John B. Johnston and Mrs. Alma McCoy Johnston. He attended St. George public schools and graduated from Wofford College in 1932. He was a salesman with Nesbitt Co., a member of the Harmony Lodge No. 61, and a Shriner. He was also a member of
St. George United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Lettie Bransford Johnston of St. George; a son Addison McCoy Johnston Jr., of North Wales, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. George W. Tracy of Lansdale, Pa., three brothers, Dr. A.R. Johnston, H. Cooper Johnston and John B. Johnston, all of St. George and two sisters, Mrs. James Sharpe of St. George and Mrs. James O. Merritt of Columbia; five grandchildren and a number of Nieces and Nephews.
