My Uncle Chester was a character. I really enjoyed knowing him, especially as a teenager. He sold me my first diesel rabbit car. I'd call him a diesel enthusiast. Because of his influence I own two diesels today. As a child I remember him coming over for lunch at least once a week. He got along with his siblings, and their spouses, and enjoyed visiting with some of them. He had sisters, Betty, Jane, Olga and Emily, and brothers, Steve, Art, Curly. Chester had many nieces and nephews, and he might have made you feel like you were his favorite, but I can guarantee he liked all of nieces and nephews equally.
Chester served in the WWII. I believe he told me at one time he was MIA, and was hiding out from the Nazi's. He was graphic and didn't hold anything back with his war stories, he told it like it was.
He loved travelling, and during my life time, I know he went to Poland a few times. I have a dozen postcards he sent his sister Jane and they originate from all over the western US.
Chester was married for a short time in the mid 1950s. He had two long-term relationships after that. Chester lived in Illinois, but also had a residence in Texas (Temple).
I think Chester enjoyed life and lived it the fullest.
Sadly, towards the end of his life, he was sick, and was home-bound.
