Erwin- Mr. Burnie Peterson Sr., age 79 of Erwin, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late James and Mary Britt Peterson. Mr. Peterson retired from Southern Pottery after 15 years of service. He was a member of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Peterson was a former member of the Erwin Planning Commission, honorary deputy for Unicoi County Sheriff's Department, former 3rd District Unicoi County Constable, member of the Upper East TN Human Development Agency, was 2001 recipient of the TN Healthcare Association Who's Who Among Nursing Home Residents and was named State of Tennessee Honorary Sgt. of Arms by Governor Ned McWherter.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Peterson on January 16, 2003; a grandson, Kelley Lewis; a brother, R.C. Peterson and an infant sister.

Survivors include three sons, Burnie Peterson Jr & wife Sharon, Larry Peterson & wife Joyce, all of Erwin; six daughters, Sandra Raynor, Barbara Lewis & husband, Ronnie, Helen Lloyd & husband Roger, Marsha Bagby & husband Reed, Mary Nell Lane & husband Howard, all of Erwin; Sylvia Banner & husband Arnold or Unicoi; one brother & two sister in laws, Carl & Jackie Peterson of Anderson, IN, Anna Mae Bible of Erwin. *Source-Johnson City Press, 15 Feb 2005, Tue · Page 2
