FLORENCE - Irene Britt Dickson, 87, of Florence, died Thursday, July 26, 2007, after an illness.

She was born in Parkton, NC, a daughter of the late William Gordon Britt and Lillie McLeod Britt. She graduated from Parkton High School and attended East Carolina Teachers College in Greenville, NC, now known as East Carolina University.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Faithful Helpers Sunday School Class and a member of The Fifty-Year Club of First Baptist Church, Florence.

She was the wife of the late James Thomas Dickson. She is survived by one son, James Thomas Dickson, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Barbara "Bobbie" Humphries Dickson of Cheraw, SC; two grandsons, James Thomas Dickson, III (Becky) of Greenville, SC, and Richard Mark Dickson (Debbie) of Lugoff, SC; three great-granddaughters, Brittney Dickson, Cassandra Dickson and Ericka Dickson; a great-grandson, Matthew Thomas Dickson; and a step great-grandson, Will Clarkson. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Aliene B. McRae of Lumberton, NC, and Ida Marie Britt of Parkton, NC; and two brothers, Russell Paul Britt and William Gordon Britt, Jr., both of Warsaw, NC.

Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
