America jazz and rhythm and blues alto saxophnist, a pioneer of post-war American Rhythm and Blues style. He had a number of popular hits such as "Flamingo", "Harlem Nocture", "Temptation", "Sleep", and "Where or When", which showed his characteristic growl on the horn. Bostic was influenced by Sidney Bechet, he was a major infleuence on John Coltrane. Bostic graduated from Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. Years active 1931-1965. He was associated with Lionel Hampton, Benny Golson, Blue Mitchell, and many others to numerous to mention. Earl Bostic died from a heart attack in Rochester, New York while performing with his band.
