CHESTER - Clifton R. Huff, 94 of Fox Lane in Chester, passed away, on Tuesday May 12, 2009 at East Liverpool City Hospital following a brief illness.

A son of the late Ray P. and Edna Peterson Huff, he was born on Jan. 19, 1915 in East Liverpool.

A life time resident of Hancock County, he along with his wife Arline whom he married on April 22, 1939 and who died on February 14, 2008, owned and operated Huff's service station in Chester for 30 years. A very active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester, Huff at one time served as an elder and trustee.

He was the only remaining charter member of the Chester Lions Club where he was the combined secretary and treasurer the first year and president in 1972-73. He enjoyed being chairman of the broom and light bulb sales and attending many state conventions along with his wife, Arline.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the European theater during WW II where he was a heavy machine gunner in Co. I 23rd infantry. Huff was a member of American Legion Post 121 in Chester where he had served as service officer and treasurer. He was also a member of VFW post 6450 in Chester.

An avid golfer, he spent several day's a week on the course, just up until a few years ago.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Velma Connell and Virginia Tallman.

Survivors include his son, James R. Huff and his wife Debby of Coco, Fla., one daughter Janice Huff and her life companion Barbara Rudaitis of Pittsburgh, one granddaughter, Jessica Huff of Pittsburgh, a niece, Mary Kay Connell, and a cousin, Jacky Rothermund.

Rev. Katrina Lewis of the church will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Friday May 15, 2009 at Westminster Presbyterian Church where the family will be present to receive friends one hour prior to the service. Family and friends will gather in the church fellowship hall at the conclusion of the services for food and fellowship. Interment will be in Locust Hill Cemetery.
