Michael McKinnon
Michael John McKinnon, 65, of Terre Haute, Ill., died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at his home.
Born July 24, 1943, in Macomb, Ill., he was the son of Carl and Mary Irene Chapman McKinnon. On Feb. 25, 1962, he married Diana Painter in Terre Haute.

Mr. McKinnon retired in April from CSI Ltd., Burlington, where he worked for 19 years as warehouse manager. He worked at Lehigh-Leopold in Burlington for 29 years and was assistant foreman of the company when it closed. He worked briefly at Housewright Lumber in La Harpe, Ill. In 1984, he and family members opened Cattails and Cornshucks in Terre Haute. He attended elementary school at Gilead, a one-room country school, and graduated from La Harpe High School in 1961. He attended Terre Haute United Methodist Church and Pontoosuc Community Church. He was a volunteer fireman in Terre Haute for 25 years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and dancing.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kimberly McKinnon Thompson of Roeland Park, Kan., Deborah McKinnon Funk of Independence, Mo., and Susan Hobby of La Harpe; one brother, Jack McKinnon of Macomb; four sisters, Linda Hughes of La Harpe, Carol Sargeant and Wendy Olson, both of Blandinsville, Ill., and Loretta Anders of Kirkwood, Ill.; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in La Harpe where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. McKinnon will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Banks and Beals Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Smith and Tom Wright officiating. Burial will be in Terre Haute Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Terre Haute United Methodist Church and Terre Haute Fire Department.
