Howard A. Bruce, 81, died Tuesday morning in the Stoughton Hospital after month of failing health. He was born Dec. 31, 1887 in Merrill, Wisc., the son of Mark E., and Margaret La Mieux Bruce. At the age of 14 he started in show business and later was in the bands of several of the large circuses. November 11, 1911, he married Grace May Hall in her parents' home at their circus winter quarters north of Evansville and they remained in show business with a circus of their own for several years. In 1935 they and their son returned to Evansville and established the Badger Coach Co. which they sold in 1963. Mrs. Bruce died November 9, 1963. He was a 50-year member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a member of the Knights of Pythias. Surviving are his son Mark of Evansville; a sister, Kate Bruce, Tampa, Fla. and a brother, Walter Bruce, Merrill, Wis. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 pm., at the Roderick-Ward Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, 7 to 9 pm. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Joshua Crowell officiating.
