John A. Lee married Mary Ann Flynn in Coosa County, AL just before he enlisted in the 60th Alabama Rgt. He and a friend Sgt. John F. Vardaman were at the surrender at Appomattox and they walked home together.

That fall John Vardaman married Mary Ann's older sister, second born Julia Ann Flynn. Mary Ann and John bought a 3 piece suite of bedroom furniture in Coosa Co., then sold it to John and Julia just before the Lees moved to Wood Co., Texas in the early 1870's. At least one piece of the furniture, the wash stand, survives today in the home of one of the Vardaman descendants in New Mexico. Mary Ann and John were the parents of at least 11 children.
