He enlisted in the United States Army on 7 March 1942. He served during World Wars I and II, and the Korean War. He was Honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class (E7) on 30 April 1953.
John Passed away on 18 December 1976, and is buried at the Washington Veterans Home Cemetery at Retsil, Washington.
