From Tubby and Lloyd Lewis Burt:
Family Tradition is that Lewis W departed from Sharpsburg, PA with his father and three brothers, intending to travel to the Northwest territories. The traveled by flatboat down the Ohio River. When they got to St. Louis, they heard of an outbreak of disease (typhoid? smallpox?). The father and three brothers turned around, and disembarked at Pomeroy, settling in Ohio, and generating hundreds of Burt's in the Meigs, Athens, and Columbus areas. One brother continued on toward North Dakota.
