Funeral service for Mr. Albert Lelan Channel, 88, of Nacogdoches will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday April 15, 2009, at Laird Funeral Home with Dr. Johnny Dammon officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Mr. Channel died Sunday, April 12, 2009, in Nacogdoches. A.L. was born October 28, 1920, in Mount Enterprise, Texas, the son of the late Charlie and Alice Dorena Clifton Channel. A.L. grew up in Sacul, Texas, where he attended school and was a star basketball player. He later attended Massey Business College. A.L. served his country in World War II in Patton's Third Army with the 71st Division. He married Juanita Marie Griffin November 2, 1940. In 1954 hey moved to Nacogdoches where he was employed with Texas Power and Light Company for 31 years. A.L. loved his involvement with his church work at Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member and an active deacon. He was also a Mason for over 50 years with membership at Milam No. 2 Masonic Lodge. He liked working with his cattle, fishing and hunting and any other activity that would keep him outdoors. A.L. loved his family, especially his wife, Juanita. He loved people and would help anyone in need. Albert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Juanita Griffin Channel; two daughters, Marie Tarver and husband, Charlie, of Silsbee and Doris Lang and husband, Larry, of Nacogdoches; three sons, Larry Channel and wife, Beth, of Nacogdoches, Gary Channel and wife, Wendi, of Douglass and Dale Channel and wife, Debra, of Douglass; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be George Wages, Mike Lee, Brent Hughes, Danny Ivy, H.B. Broadway and Dennis Channel. Honorary pallbearers will be Fredonia Hill Baptist Church Adult 6 class and Milam No. 2 Masonic Lodge.
