Funeral services for Jack Lewis Kerby, 77, of Roscoe, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Broadway Baptist Church, with Rev. James Baker and Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009, at the funeral home.
Kerby died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 8, 1932, in Roscoe. He married Mary Woods June 18, 1959, in Dallas. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church. Jack was also a farmer and a lifetime resident of Roscoe, except for approximately 20 years he lived in Frisco, Texas.
Being an accomplished musician, he served as a church organist for 15 years at First Baptist Church in Frisco and was also a church pianist for First Baptist Church of Roscoe.
Jack served on Frisco City Council in the 1960s having annexed much of the land now comprising the current city. He served as Deacon at First Baptist Church of Roscoe for many years. He also served the farming industry as a member of the Board of Directors of the Roscoe Co-op Gin.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kerby of Roscoe; two sons, Tim Kerby of Roscoe and Joel Kerby and wife Marsha of Overton; one daughter, Janie Naizer and husband David of Snyder; two granddaughters, Whitney Coats and husband Tyler and Sadye Naizer; two grandsons, Jace Kerby and Seth Naizer; one brother, James Hillman Kerby and wife Donna of Temple; two sisters, Virginia Cleckler and husband Frank of Roscoe and Kathryn Rister and husband Curtis of Tye; and their families and special friends, David and Debbie Morris; one step sister, Joy Turk and husband Delbert; one step brother, Bill Henrich and wife April.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Pauline Kerby; and step mother, Clarine Henrich Kerby; sister-in-law, Cindy Kerby; and brother-in-law, Gene Stuckey.
Pallbearers will be David Stuckey, Jeff Kerby, James Cleckler, Tyler Coats, Jace Kerby and Seth Naiger.
