RADFORD-James Preston Bowden, Sr., age 69, passed away Sunday, Sept 29, 1991, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was a member of Rockford United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, and a retired civil service employee at Radford Army Ammunition Plant with over 42 years service. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth R. Bowden, Radford; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Mary) Whitlock and Mrs. Rebecca De-Costa, both of Radford; one son, James P. & Juanita Bowden, Jr., Radford; three brothers, Andrew Bowden, Columbia, SC; Carlos Bowden, Indian Harbor Beach, FL; Alvin Bowden, Dazzel, SC; five sisters, Mrs. Dolley Hatcher, Dublin; Mrs. Nellie Wood, Johnson City, TN; Mrs. Mae Ledford, Irwin, TN; Mrs. Pauline Johnson, Portsmouth, OH; Mrs. Sam Shumate, Vicker; eight grandchildren, Mrs. Tina Matusvich, Jeffery and Joshua Bowden, Maria and Wyatt Whitlock, William James, William David, and Daniel DeCosta; one step grandson, Brad Dowdy; step granddaughters, Christine Dowdy; four great-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Seaver-Sanders Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. C.W. Huff officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Special Fund of the Rockford United Methodist Church, the Pulaski County Lifesaving Crew or the American Cancer Society. The family received friends Monday evening at the Seaver-Sanders Funeral Home.
