Roland Bartholomew, 96, a life-time Lodi resident, died on Saturday, Dec. 27, 1980, at a Portage nursing home.

Born on Dec. 7, 1884, in the Town of Lodi, he was an active baseball player in his younger years. He maintained an interest in baseball even through this last season. He also was a horse lover and had been a jockey.

Survivors are five children and step-children, including his son, George of Lodi, William Williamson, Katherine Fishback, Margaret Alwin and Evelyn DeLuca; a sister, Lucille Chapman of Mauston; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, the former Lillian Cox and the former Catherine Crawford Williamson; a daughter, Carol, a son, Russell; and a step-son, James Williamson.

His great-grandfather was the first white settler in the area - Marston Clark Bartholomew, who moved from Illinois in the spring of 1845 and settled with his brother in the area near Frankland's Liquor Store.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Hamre Funeral Home in Lodi with Father Thomas Sosinski officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
