He was born Jan. 17, 1943, in Dothan, Ala., to Mary Frank and Howard Edwin Hancock. They moved to the Panama City area in 1955 and he was a 1961 graduate of Bay High School and received his Associate in Science Degree from Gulf Coast Community College in 1963.
He started his insurance career with Independent Life in 1962. He would later work with Commonwealth Mortgage in their insurance division. Upon their demise, he formed John Hancock Insurance Agency. He later would merge operations with the late J. Sam Guy, Jr. to form what would be known as Hancock-Guy & Associates Insurance Agency. This agency was later sold to Hutt Insurance in 1996 and John pursued a lifelong dream of owning and operating his own farm.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard E. Hancock, his mother, Mary Frank Hancock, and his close and lifelong friend, Curtis Porter.
He is survived by his son John W. "Jay" Hancock and wife, Kristy; son Bryan H. Hancock; his treasured grandson Tyler Vincent; his loving and adoring sisters Gail Smith and husband, Darold, Hope Thompson and husband, Al; his nephew Jason Woodham and wife, Kefrin; along with two wonderful, caring and gracious ex-wives, Linda Hancock and Belle Casler.
