BORN ON FAIR GROUNDS SITE

After intense suffering from cere-
beral chlorsis, lasting over the past
9 weeks, Andrew Jackson Harting,
55, died at his home 5 miles north of
the city at 6:30 o'clock last evening.
He had been failing rapidly for the
past few days and death was not un-
expected when it came.
The deceased was a native of Madi-
son county, being born Dec. 29, 1856,
on a large farm which was the site
of the present Elwood fair grounds.
His entire life was spent in and near
Elwood and he was one of the best
known and generally liked men of
this vicinity.
He was married to Margaret Gobel
when but a very young man and to
the union was born 7 children, all of
whom are living, they being: Joe,
Charles, Mary Hines, Grace Cone,
Trena Alfred, Gladys Harting. Be-
sides the children and wife he is sur-
vived by 3 brothers, Henry, George
and John Harting, and one sister,
Emma, living in Missouri.
Mr. Harting was the owner of an
unusuaily large and fine farm and un-
til his last illness he cared for this.
Being a hard working and thrifty
farmer, and a man generally liked
by all who knew him. He was one
of the pioneers of this vicinity and a
man who had watched Elwood grow
from a village to a splendid city, and
become many times the value it was
when he was a boy.
The funeral will be held at Forrest-
ville Thursday afternoon at 2:00
o'clock, Rev. Mr. McCoy in charge,
and interment will follow in the
cemetery at that place.
