Vernon C. Rider, 85, of Lower Paxton Township, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, Susquehanna Township.
He was born on August 15, 1923 in Warsaw, KY to the late Lafe and Lilly (Barton) Rider.
He was a United States Army Counter Intelligence Corp. Veteran of WW II and was a retired conductor from Conrail.
Vernon was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Lower Paxton Township and had played professional baseball within the St. Louis Cardinal's organization.
Surviving are his wife Marion E. (Cooper) Rider, a son Dale V. Rider and his wife Lisa of Lewisburg, a daughter Judith R. Martin and her husband Frank of Harrisburg, 4 grandchildren; Gregory Martin, Matthew Martin, Angela Neumaier, Jonathan Rider and 7 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 pm (Noon) on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in Calvary United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. S. Ronald Parks officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11am until 12pm (Noon) on Wednesday in the church.
Arrangements are being handled by Hetrick Cremation Services of Central Pennsylvania, 3125 Walnut St. Susquehanna Township.
