H. Dean Richardson was the son of William John and Eliza Ellen Richardson. His mother named her children after the flora and fauna of the area and his actual first name was Hazel, which he disliked and went by Dean.

Dean married Florence Low and they had two children. Wayne and Eva June. He was a prominent businessman in Westport, Indiana and owned a restaurant and gas station(filling station in those days). When he started his gas station, he was told that he'd go out of business because the newfangled automobile would not last.

He was an avid outdoorsman and raised champion show dogs. He was also a member of the Westport Masonic Lodge.

He died at age 44 by what is believed to have been a ruptured appendix.
