Peninah was born in 1772 in Chowan Co. North Carolina. She married Col Holman Freeman Jr. 10 Nov 1786 probably in Wilkes Co. Ga. She received one draw in the 1817 Georgia Land Lottery as a widow of Holman Freeman who served in the Revolutionary War.

Peninah moved to Alabama around 1817, after the death of her husband, Holman Freeman, with her son John Walton Freeman.

Their children were:

1. Mary Ann Freeman b 1788 Wilkes Co.
2. Rev. Fleming Freeman b 1791 Wilkes Co.
3. John Walton Freeman b 1793 Wilkes Co.
