William "Bill" Charles Tomes, 42, of Suffolk, VA passed away May 21, 2009. He was born in Detroit, MI. He retired after 20 years in the U.S. Navy having served in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. Bill was an active police officer for the Chesapeake Police Department and participated in the Big Brothers and Sisters Program. He was a member of Open Door Church and head of the security detail for the church. Bill was a member of the V.F.W. Post in Oak Harbor, WA.
Bill is survived by his wife of 22 years, Diana Denise Tomes of Suffolk, VA; daughter, Vannessa Marie Tomes of Suffolk, VA; mother and father, Carol M. and Albert Tomes of Frederic, MI; brothers, Neil Tomes and Albert Tomes, Jr. both of Frederic, MI.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Open Door Church with Pastor Tony Peaks officiating. Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Friends may join the family Monday night from 6-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA and other times at the residence.
