JEANS - John M. Jeans of Eugene, died May 22, 1991, at the age of 89. He was born June 5, 1901, in Elmira, Oregon. Member of Westside Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; his son, John E.E. Jeans of Florence; his daughters: Alice House of La Jolla, California and Marjorie Scott of Eugene; his step-daughters: Wanda Brabham of Eugene, and Janice Huckins of Elmira; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his nieces: Zaida Allen of Eugene and Leola Burnett of Sweethome. He married Bessie fountain Jeans December 1, 1924, she preceded him in death in 1968. He was also preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Dalton and William and 1 sister, Gladys Piper. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 28, 2:00 p.m. in MUSGROVE FAMILY MORTUARY. Reverend Kyle Hoff officiating. Concluding services to follow in Lane Memorial Gardens. Visitation hours Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 12 Noon. Those who wish may contribute in John's memory to the Oregon Cancer Society in care of the chapel.

John Jeans dies at 89

The funeral will be Tuesday for John Milton Jeans, 89, of Eugene, a descendant of Oregon pioneer families. He died May 22 of cancer.

He was born June 5, 1901, near Elmira. He attended a one-room school house on Jeans Road and graduated from Elmira High School in 1920. He married Bessie Fountain in 1924. She died in 1968.

His maternal and paternal grandparents, the Inman and Jeans families, came to Oregon by ox team from Missouri in the 1880s. Three past generation of his family lived on a donation land claim in what is now Fern Ridge Reservoir.

He worked for the Ed Hensen Implement Company and was an electrician and millwright at the Seneca Lumber Company when he retired in 1968.

In 1970, Jeans married Mildred Yates.

The Jeanses belonged to the Church of Christ in Elmira and became members of the First Christian Church and the Westside Christian Church after they moved to Eugene.

Jeans is survived by his wife, Mildred; his son, John E. E. Jeans of Florence; and daughters, Alice Hauser of La Jolla, Calif., and Marjorie Scott of Eugene. Another son, Thomas A. Jeans, preceded him in death.

Tuesday's service will be at 2 p.m. at the Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.

The last surviving member of the third generation of the pioneer Jeans and Inman family died May 22. John Milton Jeans was born near Elmira June 5, 1901 to John A. and Varian (Inman) Jeans. His maternal and paternal grandparents were pioneers, coming to Oregon by ox team from Missouri in 1850 and 1852. Three generations of his family lived on the Donation Land Claim until Fern Ridge Lake claimed most of the property.

A lifelong resident of Oregon, his early life was spent around Elmira. During his elementary school years, he went to the little one-room school house on Jeans Road. He graduated from Elmira High School in 1920. He married Bessie Fountain in December of 1924. Four children were born to them, three survive him: John E. E. Jeans, Alice Hauser and Marjorie Scott. One son, Thomas A. and his wife Bessie preceded him in death. In 1970, he married Mildred Yates who survives him.

John was a member of the Church of Christ having joined the church at Elmira as a young man. In later years, he was a member of The First Christian Church in Eugene and the West Side Christian Church. He worked many years for Ed Jensen Implement Company and at the time of his retirement in 1968 as an electrician and millwright at Seneca Lumber Company.

Funeral service was held May 28 at Musgrove Family Mortuary.
