Richard MacArthur Rush, 67, departed this life on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at his home in Esmont.

He was born February 27, 1942, a son of the late Alfonso L. Rush Sr. and Elnora (Gaines) Rush.

"Kiddy", as he was affectionately called, was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Esmont, where he served faithfully as President of the Men's Chorus and Senior Choir, and was an active member of the Combined Choir.

He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation with 34 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margie Rush; and four brothers, Alfonso Jr., Herman, Joe Louis and Clarence Rush.

He leaves behind to mourn their loss a devoted wife of 47 years, Belle (Brooks) Rush; two sons, Dwayne L. Rush and Harold I. Brooks and his wife, Sherrica; four grandchildren, two sisters, Vercarl Starks, and Marion Rush of Esmont; a sister-in-law, Mary Rush of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia; three brothers-in-law, James, Lacy and his wife, Linda, and David Brooks; a cousin that was closer than a brother, Eugene Rush and his wife, Ruby; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, May 25, 2009, at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Esmont with the Reverend Dorn H. Lewis officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.


Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville handled arrangements.
