FUNERAL FOR DR. VANSANT HELD TUESDAY - Dr. Claude Victor VanSant, Sr., of Pope Road, Douglasville, died Sunday, June 9. Dr. VanSant is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Mary VanSant; one daughter, Mrs. Bert Webb; one sister, Mrs. James (Sally May) Franklin, all of Douglasville; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter. A son, Dr. Claude VanSant Jr., died in 1973. Dr. VanSant was admitted to the practice of medicine in 1911. He was a member of the Masons, the American Medical Assn., the Georgia Assn. of Medicine, and the Douglas, Carroll and Haralson Counties Medical Assns. He was honored as a leading citizen of the Memorial Edition of the Bicentennial Anniversary. Dr. VanSant received citations from four U.S. Presidents during World War I and World War II. He served as county physician for a number of years, was a former director of the Commercial Bank, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Douglasville. During his practice of medicine, Dr. VanSant delivered more than 9,000 babies. He was 91 at the time of his death. Funeral services are scheduled for today (Tuesday, July 11) at 3 p.m. from the First Baptist Church with Dr. Milton Dwelle and Rev. Glenmore Carter officiating. Remains will lie in state in the church from 2 p.m. Internment will be in Douglasville City Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Members of the Douglas, Carroll, and Haralson counties Medical Assn. will serve as honorary pallbearers. J. Cowan Whitley Co. is in charge of the arrangements.
