She was first married to Frank Clifford Dennis who was born in Rockland, Maine and died in Guatemala in 1905. He was President of the Rio Dulce Fruit & Coffee Co. with offices in Kansas City, Missouri and Livingston, Guatemala. Prior to this, Mr. Dennis had been travelling to Guatemala for several years, and at the time (1893) of his becoming President and General Manager of the company had secured 4000 acres in Guatemala and had over 200 acres under cultivation for coffee.
