Named Hattie Irene she disliked the name Hattie, so Brig called her Hattie to tease her. The grandchildren picked up on it and she grew to love the name 'grandma Hattie'.

Because of her beautiful red hair she was known as 'Rusty' during her years at Granite High School, grades 9-12.

Irene supported and assisted her husband in his business and film making.
