Clifford L. Braun, 72, 631 West St., Plainfield,Iowa died of natural causes early Thursday morning, May 16, 1996, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital, Waverly, Iowa.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Nichols United Methodist Church, Nichols, with the Revs. Jeanne Koughn and H. Davis officiating. Burial was at the Nichols Cemetery, Nichols.
Friends attended a memorial service at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, on Sunday.
Mr. Braun was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Muscatine County, Iowa, near Nichols, the son of Roy and Cecilia (Florang) Braun. He began his education in a country school near his home, and in 1941 graduated from the Nichols High School.
On Nov. 26, 1942, he entered the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II, and served until his honorable discharge on Oct. 19, 1945.
He returned to Nichols, and on May 20, 1945, was united in marriage to Veda Nash at the Nichols United Methodist Church. The couple farmed Muscatine County for the next 10 years, at which time Cliff began his career in the feed sales business. During the next years, he worked for several feed companies as a sales representative, the last company being Kent Feeds. In the mid 1970's, they moved to Plainfield, and he retired from Kent Feeds in 1986.
He was a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the Nichols United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed fishing and camping, and since retirement, he and Verda traveled extensively throughout the United States and even abroad. On of their favorite trips was to Minnesota, where they vacationed with their family for many years.
He was avid photographer, woodworker, cook, gardener, and musician, playing the guitar, organ, and accordion.
He had served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Plainfield Library Board, and was very involved with the Plainfield Trees Forever program.
Survivors include his wife, Verda; four children, DeAnn Hakert of Elkader, Dick Braun and his wife, Diana of Lenexa, Kan., Dennis Braun of Mount Vernon, Daryl Braun and his wife, Becky of Marion; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his father, Roy Braun of Nichols; one sister, Mrs. Milton (Carol Jean) Petersen of Columbus Junction; one niece, and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his mother, and a sister, Delores, in infancy.
