Funeral graveside rites for Thomas M Moffeit, 97, Cushing were held Friday, Dec 23, 1988 in the Fairlawn Cemetery with Rev Jim Reynolds officiating. Services were under the direction of the Hackler Funeral Home, Cushing.

A Native of Texas, Moffeit was born on Feb 9, 1891 at Bellot, the son of T M Moffeit and Lydia Belon Moffeit. He was raised and received his early education in Belott. At age 12 he moved to Greer County, Oklahoma. He was married to the former Miss Vera E Hurst on Dec 6, 1914 at Reed, Oklahoma. In 1931, he moved to Vinson. He farmed until moving to Claremore in 1948 where he owned and operated a taxi service until he retired in 1969. He was active in civic and church affairs until his retirement.

Moffeit moved to Cushing in 1980 where he had since resided. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He died at his home on Thursday morning, Dec 22, 1988.

Survivors include two sons: Archie of Claremore and Roy of Okla City; five daughters: Noma Cottingham; Audre Schuster; Wilma Thompson; Ada McCann; and Peggy Sumpter. Five brother: Oran; N O; John; and George; and two sisters; Betty Clark and Beulah Reid; 26 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Rev Ralph Moffeit in 1978 and one daughter, Tommie Myers in 1976.
