JOHN FITZHUGH was the son of Henry Fitzhugh (1686-1758) and Susanna Cooke (1695-1749), and John was born on 14 June 1727 in Bedford, St. Paul's Parish, Stafford Co, Virginia.

John Fitzhugh married Alice Catlett Thornton on 30 Oct 1746 in Stafford County, Virginia. John and Alice had THIRTEEN children (that are known of) during their marriage:
