Daughter of George Stanhope, 6th Earl of Chesterfield and Hon. Anne Elizabeth Weld-Forester. She was the wife of Henry Howard Molyneux Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon, son of Henry John George Herbert, 3rd Earl of Carnarvon and Henrietta Anna Howard, on September 6, 1861 at Westminster Abbey, London. As a result of her marriage, she was styled Countess of Carnarvon on 6 September 1861. On December 1, 1871 she inherited Bretby and other estates from her brother.
