SUMMERVILLE - George Henry Bland, 81, a retired Army captain and retired school teacher, died Wednesday at his residence. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Presbyterian Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Parks Funeral Home, will be later in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Capt. Bland was born in Pattonsburg, Mo., a son of Bert B. Bland and Effie Cain Bland. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, and he attended the University of Maryland. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, a daughter, and four grandchildren.
