Graveside service for retired Sgt. 1st Class Ernest A. Cuny, 92, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Sill National Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Schoonover, pastor, Liberty Heights Chapel, and Father Thomas Roland officiating.
Sgt. Cuny died Monday, May 18, 2009, in Duncan.
Inurnment will be under direction of Becker Funeral Home.
He was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Aurora, Ill., to Emil and Marie Roehrie Cuny. He served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received the following medals: Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Republic Vietnam Service Medal with six Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal Silver Clasp with two loops, and the Vietnam Medal of Honor second class. He married Anna King on March 11, 1942, in Battle Creek, Mich. She died Feb. 18, 2008. He married Robbie Conatser on May 1, 2008, in Lawton. He preached at the Pete Coffey Mennonite Brethren Church in Cache for many years.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Matthew and Cindy Cuny, Midland, Texas; and Thomas Cuny, Pittsburg, Kan.; two grandchildren: Jeanna Cuny, Clinton, S.C; and Janice Cuny, College Station, Texas; two sisters: Ruth and Emily; and a brother, Raymond.
