PIONEER ELK CREEK FARMER DEAD
JOHN A. BEDFORD DIED AT HIS HOME IN ELK CREEK YESTERDAY MORNING

Another of the early settlers of this county passed into his reward yesterday morning. John A. Bedford, invalid for many years, passed on at the ripe old age of 84 years. His end had been expected for some time, yet his friends were not prepared for the shock.
John A. Bedford was a native of Kentucky and in early manhood set out for California. He came here 52 years ago and almost immediately went to Elk Creek where he settled on a little farm. There he reared his family and made his home ever since. Some years ago he caused no little excitement in mining circles by discovering first a gold and then a silver mine but for various reasons was never successful in prospecting either. He was a man of many resources and commanded the respect and esteem of all his acquaintances.
He is survived by his widow and several children. The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. tomorrow and interment will be in the Elk Creek cemetery. – Transcribed by E.
