Son of Charles Trumble and May (Robinson) Metcalf.
Married Genevieve M. Dissmore on May 16, 1907, at Kamiah, Idaho.

Carl and Genevieve Metcalf and their family rode the train from Nebraska to Kamiah to spend Christmas 1918 with her family, the Dissmores, before traveling to Oregon for work.

On that train, they contracted influenza and died 15 hours apart from each other.

According to the Kamiah Progress newspaper, dated December 1918, "The funeral of Mr. and Mrs. Carl C. Metcalf, whose sudden death was chronicled last week, was held Thursday afternoon and was perhaps the saddest funeral that Kamiah has ever witnessed.

On account of the influenza restrictions, no service could be held, except a short one at the grave. The friends of the deceased couple and the Dissmore family gathered at the Johnson Undertaking Parlors and a sorrowful procession followed the two hearses to the cemetery."

Two serious cases were reported in Kamiah this week, in the persons of Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf, son-in-law and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Dissmore of that city.

The sad news came through yesterday that Mr. Metcalf had succumbed to the malady and his wife was quite low. These people had recently arrived from their home in South Dakota for a visit with Mrs. Metcalf's home folks in Kamiah, and on arriving there found the Dissmore family suffering from an attack of the disease.
=
Later—A phone message received this morning from Kamiah brought the sad intelligence that Mrs. Metcalf had passed away early this morning, and the funeral will be conducted from the W.A. Dissmore home at 3 o'clock this afternoon.

Rev. Claude Martin, of the Nezperce Community church, was called upon to conduct the funeral and left for Kamiah just before noon.

SAD DEATHS AT KAMIAH

Carl Metcalf and his wife, whose presence we mentioned last week as visitors at the W.A. Dissmore home, both died of influenza this week.

Mr. Metcalf died Wednesday at 11 a.m. and his wife breathed her last just fifteen hours later, not knowing that her husband had preceded her.

Their three children have also been ill with the disease at the home of Guy Dissmore but are recovering.
The death of these two has cast a dark shadow over the entire community.

The Metcalf family arrived here a week ago last Saturday for a visit with Mrs. Metcalf's parents and other relatives.

They were stricken with influenza the latter part of last week and pneumonia followed very soon. Everything was done for them that human agencies could offer but to no avail. The bodies were laid to rest in the local cemetery this afternoon with only a short service at the grave.
