Oliver S. Tyner RALEIGH - Oliver S. Tyner, 102, passed on peacefully May 20, 2009, at his residence at Abbotswood at Stonehenge in Raleigh. He will be missed by the many people who loved and cared for him. He was born May 1, 1907, in Elberton, Ga., where he grew up on the family farm with 10 siblings. He graduated from Douglas Business College and resided in Douglas, Ga., where he met and married his wife, Mary Aline Robinson. After providing high school and/or college educations for a sister and two nieces and serving in the Navy during World War II, Mr. Tyner and his wife relocated to Norfolk where he owned and operated a barber shop at Wards Corner. After retiring at 84, Mr. Tyner moved to Raleigh, N.C., to be near his daughter. A special thanks to the staff, residents, and health care team at Abbotswood, especially Lilly Mizrahi. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Aline in 1961, and seven brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Oliver Tyner of Raleigh; sister, Toresa Deibert of Merritt Island, Fla.; a niece, Peggy Deibert Simpson and her husband Steve and their three children, all of Raleigh; and numerous other nieces and nephews. A great appreciation is extended to the team at Hospice of Wake County for their comfort, compassion and loving care given to Mr. Tyner and his daughter. Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Douglas City Cemetery, Douglas, Ga. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1330 St. Mary's St., 4th Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605. Arrangements in Raleigh by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, and in Douglas by Sims Funeral Home.
