Walter Sumner

METROPOLIS, Ill. - Walter Sumner, 75, of Metropolis, died at 7:45 a.m. Saturday at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
Mr. Sumner was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, American Legion, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was also retired from Electric Energy Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Sumner; three sisters, Wanda Mattingly of Saratoga, Texas, Alice Smith of Morganfield, Ky., and Mary Midyett of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a grandson, Randy Sumner of Metropolis; five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mamie Sumner; a son, Don Sumner; a grandson, three brothers, and a sister.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Massac Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James Walker officiating. Friends may call at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to noon Monday.
