Mathena, age 79, of Portage, passed away May 22, 2009 at her home. She was born December 24, 1929 in Lansing, MI to the late Ray and Vera (Smith) White. Arliss was married to Robert Mathena who preceded her in death in 1998. She was a member of the Portage Christian Church. Arliss was also the missions Director for the Haiti Organization. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers; and four sisters. Arliss is survived by her sons: James (Linda) Mathena of IL, Robert (Kimberly) Mathena of Demotte and Fred (Christina) Mathena of FL; daughter, Kea (Larry) Freds of MI; eight loving grandchildren; and six loving great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Portage Christian Church with Pastor Jesse Stoner officiating. Burial will follow at Blake Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Portage Christian Church, 5880 Evergreen, Portage, IN 46368.
